Yoga Class (and Benefits for the Myeloma Community)

Event Description
Myeloma patient Jean Becker joins the HealthTree Moves Community to discuss and demonstrate yoga moves appropriate for myeloma patients (and caregivers!)
She will talk about yoga classes specifically for cancer patients, what benefits yoga has, and present some moves for us. She will also talk about other activities she participates in and what precautions myeloma patients might want to take when starting active movement.

Speakers & Moderators

Audrey joined the HealthTree Foundation as the Myeloma Community Program Director in 2020. While not knowing much about myeloma at the start, she has since worked hard to educate herself, empathize and learn from others' experiences. She loves this job. Audrey is passionate about serving others, loves learning, and enjoys a nice mug of hot chocolate no matter the weather.

I was diagnosed in late 2011, at the age of 54, after a few years of weird labs. I went through "standard" induction (RVD), responded well, and had an autologous stem cell transplant in 2012 (outpatient). I was on REVLIMID maintenance for about 8 years, in a very good remission, until two years ago. It was slow, and I tried to get into a CAR-T clinical trial, but didn't qualify at the last minute, so after the bones took another big hit, I am now in ongoing treatment with Isatuximab (infusion), pomalyst, and dex. I worked throughout the entire treatment/process, except for 5 months for the transplant, as an educator of children. My husband is a great caregiver, and I have been in a support group of some sort, since after the transplant. I am recently retired, which was planned pre-covid, but now is impacted by the active cancer and covid, as many are. Looking for another remission, but glad to know there are so many new treatments approved for us.
