Meet Myeloma Coach Carol Calcitrai: Her Story and how HealthTree can Benefit all Myeloma Patients

A Coach Understands Your Journey
A cancer diagnosis can throw anyone into emotional turmoil and individuals can experience a wide range of emotions. Emotions ranging from determination, worry, fear, anger, denial and hopelessness can be felt and experienced often even in the same day.
When Carol Calcitrai was diagnosed with myeloma in 2009 she felt she had two options. She could turn inward, seclude herself in worry, doubt and self pity, or she could look outward, “keep walking” and move forward. She chose the second and she has never looked back. She chose to face myeloma with fierce determination, hope, a positive attitude and her contagious “zest for life”. Although, prior to her diagnosis she had been a quiet person she decided to bravely use her voice. She began advocating for herself by doing hours of research, asking questions, and seeking out her best treatment options. She persevered even after the sudden and tragic loss of her husband only months after her diagnosis. Carol sought out and used essential tools such as HealthTree to provide her with even more detailed, personalized information to further guide her care.
Carol’s optimistic and proactive response to her diagnosis of myeloma did not only benefit her, but many others. She frequently shared what she was learning with other patients she would meet. Carol took her desire to help a step further and became a Myeloma Coach. As a Coach she is able to share support, encouragement, hope, optimism and her knowledge of essential resources with other myeloma patients across the country.
