How do I prepare for treatment? Myelodysplastic syndromes, for somebody who has lower risk MDS, can take years to progress, and there are patients I've followed for over a decade without ever needing to make a treatment intervention. Their blood counts are mildly low, but other than that, the MDS does an inconvenience to their lifestyle. For somebody with higher risk myelodysplastic syndromes, however, progression can occur quickly, usually in less than two years. And for that reason, we treat people with higher risk myelodysplastic syndromes very seriously and as a medical urgency, and we intervene with therapy pretty quickly.
