Is MDS more common in certain groups or demographics? Most patients diagnosed are over the age of 60 and they're 60, 70s and 80s. Beyond that, there are other risk factors, so it is more common in men. It is more common in smokers. We know the molecular characteristics are somewhat different between different racial and ethnic populations, and those are all areas that are being further explored at this time. There is a genetic component, but it is not something that is hereditary for a vast majority of patients. Myelodysplastic syndrome is slightly more common in men than in women, probably at about a 60% to 40% ratio. Slightly more common in people who are white compared to capital B Black Americans, or down here in Miami we also refer to an Afro-Caribbean population. And it does occur more commonly in people as they age. So as we get older, just like with other conditions like cancers, it becomes more common in people as they get into their 70s, 80s and 90s.
