What is genetic testing and what can it tell you about your MDS? Genetic testing is like looking at your genes to see, you know, if you have anything that can be inherited or passed on to your family members, your children specifically. And I'm not sure all of the things involved with genetic testing. They are starting to look at that also genetic testing for donors to see if the donors have any kind of mutations that might make the person they donated for more prone to getting a cancer again. And it's not just like bone marrow disorder. Some of these mutations are also associated with heart disease or pulmonary disease, things like that. That once you know they have that mutation and that it is linked to these other problems then you refer them out to those people. But really I'm not sure of all the tests involved in genetic testing. But I do know they want to know all about your family because they do those pedigrees ask you about your mother and father and their mother and father. So the more information you have the more meaningful those visits are. And that can be hard if you were adopted because you don't know your history but you know if you have children, like if they have any problems.
