BETA - What types of drugs treat MDS?

What types of drugs treat MDS? Yeah so again for the different stratifications of MDS for lower risk we use the ESAs. This might be darbopoietin, epoietin names like that. Lus patercept again recently FDA approved and then a drug called lenalidomide. This is used in other cancers. It's specifically in MDS though only for a certain molecular abnormality called the deletion 5q. Those patients seem to be very sensitive to Lenalidomide and there's some evidence other patients without that may respond as well, but not to the same degree so besides azacytidine those are our other approved options and then you know the molecular testing we talked about some patients may have abnormalities that are also seen in MDS such as I'm sorry also seen in AML such as IDH mutations. There are only about 10% of patients, but those patients may respond to IDH inhibitors. IDH1 or IDH2 inhibitors called Ivositinib or anisitinib or now there's a new one, Oludacitinib. So there's these targeted agents that were tested in AML, but if the patients with MDS have the same mutations there's good studies that it can work in those as well. We do have more options. Some of the trials that are coming up are testing immunotherapies in combination with azacytidine, specifically a drug called Magrolumab. That one's very promising, but it's not yet FDA approved. It's still going through the clinical trials process.
