Tarek Elghetany, MD
Professor
Dr. Elghetany has been studying the expression of the p53, p21 waf, WT-1, caspase-3, survivin, and Ki 67 in inherited and acquired bone marrow failure syndromes in an attempt to gain insight into the mechanism of cytopenias. Also, he is investigating the possible use of expression patterns to help differentiate inherited from acquired cytopenias. He continues to study patients with inherited bone marrow failure syndromes using cytochemistry and flow cytometry in order to find changes that could be predictive of the development of myelodysplastic syndrome or acute leukemia.
