What is chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML)?

What is chronic myelomonocytic leukemia or CMML?

Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia is a type of leukemia which is a blood cancer.

And this specific type of blood cancer is characterized by the overproduction of a type of white blood cell called monocytes.

So chronic myelomonocytic leukemia is a chronic monocytic leukemia.

And it kind of exists in the space between myelodysplastic syndrome where you have under production of blood cells, and myeloproliferative neoplasms where you have overproduction of, blood cells.

And so it's considered an overlap syndrome. And it kind of exists between both of these.

And because of that, it makes it challenging to identify and diagnose and also makes it very challenging to treat because you have these two different types of issues going on in the same disease.
