How is kidney disease diagnosed? Your doctor can tell that you have a kidney problem by looking at your lab tests and that test is called a serum creatinine. So oftentimes that's elevated. So that might be a signal to your doctor that something's going on with your kidneys. Additionally, we can see things going on with your kidneys in your urine testing. So seeing too much protein in the urine. Now sometimes when those tests show that there are abnormalities, that might in turn lead to a biopsy of the kidney to see if there's something going on inside. And in monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance, what we can see is a disorder called focal glomerulosclerosis.
