What is the role of acupuncture in cancer care?
So acupuncture is part of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a specific technique where you're using these very fine needles in specific locations, acupuncture points, to help with different symptoms.
There's growing data in clinical research indicating that it can be helpful. So most of the data to date really focuses on things like pain, for which there have been randomized controlled trials.
Also, there's data on nausea and vomiting and reducing these symptoms. there's growing data might help with hot flashes aromatase induced arthralgias and also, chronic pain into survivorship. there is growing data about its benefits for chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy, which is common in multiple myeloma.
And so there's pilot studies and ongoing studies, showing that there's likely to be some benefit, with these types of acupuncture treatments.
