How is CMML diagnosed?

CMML is diagnosed based largely on blood findings and a bone marrow biopsy. Some patients will come to the attention of a hematologist and be referred because of low red blood cell or anemia, or a high white blood cell, or low white blood cell, or low platelet count.

It's also possible to have different signs and symptoms like fevers, night sweats, or a big spleen that can cause symptoms that is then worked up further and then referred to hematologists.

And a hematologist will look at the blood and notice an increase in the number and the percentage of monocytes in CMML. And that will prompt them to do a bone marrow biopsy. And with the bone marrow biopsy and other tests can make the diagnosis for CMML.
