Are there different types of CMML and what are those different types?

Are there different types of CMML? And if so, what are the different types?

I've met many patients with CMML, and I've never met two patients with the same type of CMML. So there's very different categories of CMML.

One category is more proliferative meaning making more blood cells. And that's really defined by a white blood cell count that's above 13,000. Those patients generally have more symptoms, may have a bigger spleen, and may have different types of mutations that are driving the disease.

The other subtype is myelodysplastic subtype with a white blood cell count that's less than 13, and patients with that subtype often exhibit more profound anemia. Low red blood cells more issues as relates to low platelet count, and have a different type of disease and different prognosis.
