HealthTree Policy & Advocacy
Our Commitment to Advocacy
At HealthTree Foundation, we are driven by a singular vision: we envision a world where every patient and researcher has access to the essential data needed to make informed treatment decisions and discover cures. Achieving this goal requires strong advocacy to ensure that policies align with the needs of patients and the scientific community. Our advocacy efforts are focused on improving healthcare policies that empower patients, accelerate research, and create a better future for blood cancer patients.
Our Legislative Priorities
We advocate for policies that help to advance our mission of accelerating the discovery of cures for blood cancers by leveraging technology and data-driven collaboration. Our priorities include:
Research
-
Support legislation that enables patients and researchers to access, share, and utilize comprehensive patient data to improve care and accelerate discoveries.
-
Urge the FDA and other regulatory bodies to support real world data infrastructure and recognize real world data as a valid clinical trial control arm
-
Advocate for increased funding and support for blood cancer research, ensuring that new, innovative treatments are accessible to those in need.
-
Require and incentivize diverse recruitment strategies to ensure clinical trial participants reflect the populations most affected by blood cancers.
Access & Affordability
-
Advocate for policies that cap out-of-pocket costs for cancer treatments, including medications and therapies.
-
Increase transparency in healthcare pricing to empower patients with clear, upfront information about their treatment costs.
-
Expand Medicare coverage for innovative treatments and therapies, including personalized medicine and immunotherapies.
Telehealth
-
Permanent telehealth reimbursement policies that enable patients to receive cancer care remotely without compromising quality.
-
Expand telehealth access to include consultations, follow-ups, and mental health services for cancer patients.
-
Address technological and internet access barriers that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.
Screening & Early Access
-
Expand access to affordable, evidence-based cancer screenings for all individuals, regardless of insurance status.
-
Lower the recommended age for certain screenings where early detection has been proven to improve outcomes.
-
Provide funding for public awareness campaigns about the importance of cancer screening and early detection.
Why It Matters
The decisions made today will shape the future of blood cancer treatment and research. By uniting our efforts, we can ensure that patients and researchers have the data, tools, and policies needed to transform the future of care and accelerate the discovery of cures.
